Do I Have to Be a Freight Broker to Track My Loads? No, Shippers Can Too

Sep 26, 20263 min readBy the HaulEye team
Short version: No. HaulEye works for anyone who needs to know where a truck is: shippers, manufacturers, distributors, receivers and carriers, not just brokers. You add the load, text the driver a link, and watch the truck yourself. Plans start at $100 a month with 10 tracked loads included.

Most load tracking software is sold to freight brokers, so a lot of shippers assume it isn't for them. They wait for their broker or carrier to send updates, and when the update doesn't come, they call. Then they call again.

You don't need a broker's permission to know where your own freight is. HaulEye is sold to anyone who ships or hauls freight, and it works the same way whether you're a broker, a shipper or a carrier.

Who uses HaulEye besides brokers

  • Shippers and manufacturers who book trucks directly with carriers and want to see every outbound load on a map.
  • Distributors and wholesalers who need to tell their own customers when an order will arrive.
  • Receivers and warehouses who want to know which trucks are close so they can plan dock doors and labor.
  • Carriers and fleet owners who want to see their own drivers without buying ELD add-ons.
  • Shippers who use a broker but want their own view of the load instead of waiting on status emails.

How it works when you're the shipper

It takes about a minute per load.

  1. Add the load. Pickup, delivery and the driver's cell number. You get the driver's number from the carrier or your broker when the truck is booked.
  2. HaulEye texts the driver a link. The driver signs in with their phone number and taps Start Tracking. No account, no password, and the app is free for them.
  3. You watch the truck. Live position, speed, arrival and departure at each stop, and how long the truck sat at the dock.
  4. The POD comes to you. The driver snaps the signed POD in the app and it lands on the load.

If the driver doesn't use the app, HaulEye texts them for you, politely, and writes their reply into the tracking log. You aren't the one chasing.

What if my broker already tracks the load?

That's fine. Plenty of brokers track loads well. The difference is who sees it and when. With your own tracking, you see the truck the moment it moves, you don't depend on someone forwarding an update, and you keep a record of arrival times and dock time for every load you ship. If a load is late, you know before your customer calls you.

Share it with your own customers

Every tracked load has a link you can send to your customer, with your company name and logo at the top. They see the truck on a map without calling you. For a shipper, that's the difference between "we'll check and get back to you" and "here's the live link."

What it costs

Pricing is the same for everyone:

  • Starter: $100 a month with 10 tracked loads included, then $2.50 per tracked load.
  • Pro: $150 a month with 10 tracked loads included, then $1.00 per tracked load.

A load only counts once the driver actually starts sharing. There's no per-user charge, so your whole shipping team can log in. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.

If you pay for the freight, you should be able to see the truck. You don't have to be a broker to get that.
